Banana Brownies are a delicious banana dessert you are sure to love! The chewy, fudgy, dense texture of a brownie with dreamy banana flavor!
I am obsessed with brownies. There, I said it. I am also obsessed with creating new flavors of brownies to feed my addiction.
I wrote a cookbook all about brownies, blondies, and bars a few years ago and I still love creating (and eating) new recipes! These banana brownies are amazing. They are like a cross between banana bread and Fudgy White Chocolate Brownies.
If you have never made anything but chocolate brownies – you are missing out!
These banana brownies were fabulous on their own, but if you are feeling extra indulgent, drizzle a little melted peanut butter or chocolate on top!
How to Make Banana Brownies
- First melt the white chocolate and butter. This base helps give these bars a fudge texture, like their chocolate counterparts.
- You will need 2 medium sized bananas, mashed well. You want the bananas you use in this recipe soft, speckled bananas, like what you would use in banana bread. The more ripe they are, the sweeter and more flavorful they will be.
- Be careful to not over-mix the batter, rather, stir together just until the ingredients are combined.
- Feel free to add chocolate chips or nuts to the batter before baking, or powdered sugar (on top of finished bars) to jazz them up a bit! They are delicious as is, but a little extra chocolate never hurt anyone.

Great Recipe! Tried that today and it was worthy.

I found your recipe while looking for something else. It was intriguing, I couldn’t quite imagine them, so I got some white chocolate and made it more or less as written. The bananas had gone to sugar, so I scanted the sugar measure to 2/3 and didn’t level off the flour (maybe two tablespoons extra), to keep them from being oversweet (I scant sugar in a lot of recipes). I also used induction and an enameled cast iron pot on level 1, rather than a bowl over steam to do the melting. The rest as written, except they lasted in a container on the counter for a week. 🙂 (I didn’t read the part about refrigerating, YMMV).
These are so fantastic! Really satisfying eating, and a small square will do (I cut 25). I’ve never before baked anything with bananas which really tasted like bananas! I mean, a shadow of oh, there are bananas in this, flavor, like in banana bread, but these taste like bananas! With a lovely texture and bounce, and still nicely sweet with the adjustments I made to suit my taste.
Thank-you for the fantastic recipe! It’s a keeper.

Thanks for this recipe! I really loved how the brownies came out. I had a little more banana lying around and added about a third of a cup of chopped pecans.

I looovvveee this recipe. I have made this recipe twice. I just made this recipe for the second time, but I substituted honey for the granulated sugar. In addition, I substituted applesauce and baking powder for the egg, and I omitted the chocolate. My only issue with this recipe is that it doesn’t offer nutritional information. Other than that, I believe this recipe deserves 5 stars.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What are the proportions of your substitutes? I added 1/4 t cinnamonin my second batch which gave a mor satisfying depth of flavor.

can i use something instead of chocolate, peanut butter or something else?

Do these freeze well?

At first I was a bit anxious-after all, the only chocolate to be found in my house was bittersweet chips, and my bananas were huge, and so overripe the skins tore as I picked them up!
However, despite these challenges, this recipe yielded massive, fudgy, decadent beauties which lasted less than 20 minutes out of the oven between my family and the neighbors!!
This is easily the best homemade brownie I’ve ever had, and beats the heck out of box mixes with close to the same amount of effort-and the effort here was WELL worth the finished goodies!
Thank you for a new mainstay recipe in my kitchen!!

These sound soo good, but my family doesn’t like white chocolate 🙁 can you make these brownies with dark chocolate instead? Will I have to change the recipe?
Ashley says
I used the same amount of semi sweet chocolate chips and it came out perfect! My family loved these!
Great recipe and a wonderful new use for my roberripe bananas other than banana bread!

I couldn’t find my 8″ pan (part of moving, I suppose); so I made them in a muffin tin. They were okay, and I’d probably make them again, but I didn’t fall in love with the recipe. All the same, thanks for sharing this with the rest of us!
Pernille says
Hey, I really want to try these. Is it possible to not use the sugar? Or would I have to substitute the sugar for something else?
Danielle says
You can substitute honey for sugar. Just use way less though, as honey is much sweeter than sugar. I would use like 2 or 3 TBSP of honey, maybe, to replace the sugar. Actually, I bet the slight honey taste/essence would probably be delicious!

Granulated suga also provides volume
so your batch will be smalleqr
You will eentualkly just be making banana bread

Stephanie Brubaker says
You don’t really taste the white chocolate – it mostly adds sweetness and helps make the brownies fudgy. You only taste banana 🙂 Hope you give them a try!
Eileen says
The bars were really good! I did add some chopped pecans as my bananas were very ripe and left dark spots in the batter. They just thought they were chopped nuts.

Do these ever bake? I’ve been baking them for 20 minutes and they still are pure liquid.
Stephanie Brubaker says
Hi Jen, I think you must have accidentally left out the flour. They should be done in about 20 minutes for sure…

I am going to make this but will brown the butter first before mixing it with the melted white chocolate for more depth of flavor and some brown sugar mixed into the white sugar as well.
