Christmas Tree and Wreath Meringue Cookies are fun and beautifully festive! A light crunch on the outside, with a slightly chewy, airy center. Delightful!
Have you ever had a meringue cookie? Have you ever made them?
I’ll be honest, meringues are not on the top of my list of favorite cookies, BUT, there is most certainly a place for this light, airy, sweet little treat among so many heavy fudge, cookies, and candy recipes this time of year.
They are simple, adorable, and delicious!
If you’ve never had a meringue, you probably don’t quite know what to expect from these cookies.
They are basically whipped egg whites with sugar (and a couple other basic ingredients). They have a marshmallow like flavor. They have a crisp shell and somewhat chewy, very airy texture. Simple and sweet!
My kids all flipped for these. They really are cute, aren’t they?
One of my twins (now 6) is my resident egg white beater. Whenever we make these Homemade Waffles (the best, btw) he always beats the egg whites. Anytime I need that job done, he’s just the boy to do it 🙂
However, when I made these meringues, he was at school. So my 2 and 3 year olds stepped in and took his place.
Was it fun? Yes.
Did half the mixture wind up all over every surface of my kitchen (and in my hair)? Yes.
Were the endless giggles worth it? You bet.
The older 3 children squeezed with delight when they came home from school to these Christmas cookies. Thumbs up from everyone!
