Homemade Spice Cake with Maple Frosting

Homemade Spice Cake with Maple Frosting

Homemade Spice Cake with Maple Frosting and Maple Glazed Pecans. The perfect Thanksgiving or Christmas dessert recipe! Easy as a box mix but SO much better!

Ingredients

cake

  • 3/4 cups oil
  • 3/4 cups applesauce
  • 1 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 3/4 cups milk
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

frosting

  • 1/2 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350
In a large mixing bowl, beat oil, applesauce, and sugar very well. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing between each addition. Add vanilla, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and spices and mix well. Add milk and mix. Add flour and mix until well incorporated. Pour into a greased 9x13" pan and bake 25 minutes or until tester comes out clean or with a few crumbs. Let cool completely.

Step 2
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and maple syrup. Add powdered sugar and maple extract and mix to combine, then mix on high for 3 minutes or until very light and creamy. If too stiff add a splash of milk and mix again. Spread over cake and sprinkle with maple pecans.
