There is never a bad time for cupcakes, especially when they’re chocolate! Today I am sharing my favorite homemade Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting recipe. I have been making these for years, as both cupcakes and layer cakes. It’s the BEST!

The best thing about these cupcakes is that while they are rich and very chocolatey, they are also light and fluffy. I think this is my favorite cupcake of all time. It doesn’t have any bells and whistles. No crazy over the top add-ins. But this recipe is classic. Who doesn’t love a wonderfully moist and decadent chocolate cake with chocolate frosting??

These cuppies were part of the dessert table for my daughter’s birthday last weekend. They also make an appearance in the form of a  layer cake at my husbands birthday celebrations every year. Everyone loves these! Go ahead and make a batch just because – don’t forget the sprinkles 🙂

Hi! I want to make these for my daughters birthday…I prefer coconut oil over any other oil, can I substitute canola with coconut here? 🙂

Yes you can, Heidi! You may have the best luck if you melt the coconut oil before adding to the batter. Also you will need to add about 2 TBS more water. Enjoy!

Just regular heavy cream. Or you can use milk instead 🙂

Hi, what sort of flour (plain or self raising) am cooking them right now and they rose then collapsed 🙁

Just use regular all purpose flour. If they collapsed on you they may not have been finished cooking.

    Hi!
I’m just wondering if you used unsweetened cocoa powder because I used that for a cake around thanksgiving and it was somewhat bitter. (I’m not sure if there’s a sweetened cocoa powder)

Yes, use unsweetened cocoa. These are not at all bitter, so no worries 🙂
