Red, White, and Blue Meringue Cookies

Red, White, and Blue Meringue Cookies are a delicious and easy patriotic dessert for the 4th of July, Memorial Day, or Labor Day! A fun and festive treat!

- 2 large egg whites
- dash salt
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- red and blue food coloring
Preheat oven to 225
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
While continuing to mix, add sugar slowly and beat until, thick and shiny, and stiff peaks are formed.
Mix in vanilla and divide merengue into 3 bowls.
Leave one plain, add red food coloring to one bowl, and add blue food coloring to the last bowl.
Add each color to a separate piping bag (or zip top baggie).
Using a star tip, pipe star shapes (or any shape desired) onto parchment or silicone lined baking sheets.
Bake for 45 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave undisturbed for an hour. Remove from oven and let cool completely.Store in a loosely covered container.
