Red, White, and Blue Meringue Cookies

Red, White, and Blue Meringue Cookies are a delicious and easy patriotic dessert for the 4th of July, Memorial Day, or Labor Day! A fun and festive treat!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large egg whites
  • dash salt
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • red and blue food coloring

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 225
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  • While continuing to mix, add sugar slowly and beat until, thick and shiny, and stiff peaks are formed.
  • Mix in vanilla and divide merengue into 3 bowls.
  • Leave one plain, add red food coloring to one bowl, and add blue food coloring to the last bowl.
  • Add each color to a separate piping bag (or zip top baggie).
  • Using a star tip, pipe star shapes (or any shape desired) onto parchment or silicone lined baking sheets.
  • Bake for 45 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave undisturbed for an hour. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
    Store in a loosely covered container.
