World’s Best Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix
I don't want to sound dramatic, but this is the World's Best Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix!! It makes rich, creamy, perfect hot chocolate. Great gift idea, too!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Hot Cocoa Mix
Step 1
Add everything to a bowl and whisk together thoroughly.
Store in a sealed jar, bag, or container until ready to use.
Hot Chocolate
Step 2
To make hot chocolate, heat milk until simmering.
Add 2 1/2 - 3 TBS cocoa mix to every mug (8-10 oz) of milk and whisk until dissolved.
Top with marshmallows, whipped cream, sprinkles, or stir with a candy cane...whatever you like!

I’ve always made a mix with dry milk. When I mixed this up, I put the required amount in a cup of hot water, since I assumed it would be mixed with water too.. It tasted too chocolatey to me, but my husband thought it was good. I then read the recipe and saw I should have added it to milk. Instead, I mixed dry milk in the mix. I didn’t measure, just until it tasted good in a cup of hot water. I also added cinnamon and turmeric to the mix. They’re really good for you and I add them to everything I can. We use our Keurig for hot water, so I didn’t want to heat milk.

I use light because that’s what I keep on hand. Either one would work though!

Milk really is best. It gives a much creamier, richer flavor 🙂

Nice to finally find a recipe that says “The Best…..and it actually is! Made a batch and it was gone in days. I am giving a few friends small mason jars filled with the cocoa and mini marshmallows on top of the cocoa as Christmas gifts. I kind of wish I hadn’t come across this recipe because it is addicting! Thanks so much for sharing what will now be my go to recipe for hot cocoa. I really enjoy following your blog.

Fantastic! I’m making several batches as Christmas gifts. I found some cute containers, but was wondering where I might find the spoon in your picture. I’d really appreciate your help.
    Keep up the great work.

I love that, Sue! It’s been a few years, but I bought the spoon at Michaels craft store. Thanks for the note!

Mmm…I just made this. The first sip took me back to the cold winter mornings when my mom would make hot cocoa on the stove…plenty of mini-marshmallows and homemade cinnamon rolls. This cocoa is an EXACT replica!
