Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes

These homemade Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes are moist and fluffy with rich,creamy chocolate frosting and a generous drizzle of dreamy salted caramel!
Ingredients
Cupcakes
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Caramel
- 1/3 cup caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
Frosting
- 3/4 cups unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cups cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- pinch salt
- 3-5 tablespoons milk or cream

Step 1 | |
Preheat oven to 350 In a medium bowl whisk together dry ingredients and set aside. In a large bowl whisk together wet ingredients until well blended. Gradually add the dry to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined. Pour into prepared cupcake liners and fill 2/3 full. Bake 13-15 minutes or until tester comes out clean. Let cool about 5 minutes before moving cupcakes to the counter to cool completely. | |

In a mixing bowl beat together the butter, cocoa, powdered sugar, salt, and 3 TBS of cream. Start mixing on low and once the ingredients are incorporated turn mixer to high until light and creamy. Add more cream 1 TBS at a time if necessary until desired consistency is reached. Pipe or spread onto cooled cupcakes. | |

Stir together caramel sauce and salt. Drizzle over frosted cupcakes and sprinkle with additional sea salt if desired. |
