The best chocolate cake has collided with one of the best cookies – Oreos! The cake alone is amazing, but the frosting is outrageous! Chocolate Oreo Cupcakes and Cookies and Cream Frosting are a match made in heaven!

This is such an easy cupcake recipe. There is no reason to buy a cake mix when chocolate cake from scratch is this easy and this scrumptious! Toss in some chopped Oreos for a little something special, and swirl on a generous portion of Oreo frosting, and you will be in cupcake heaven, friend!

I made these cupcakes for a birthday party, so I added some edible bling to make them fancy. That part is totally optional but who doesn’t love a fancy cupcake?

Things are starting to settle down around here. We moved into our new house a week ago (our second move in 2 weeks) and I’m making some progress in the unpacking department.

This house is quite a bit larger than our last house, and we need to buy a lot of furniture to fill it up and make it look like someone actually lives here 🙂 I also need to do some decorating. I need help in this area…any takers?? I have some awesome ideas, but I don’t know how to execute them. In my head it’s amazing, but I don’t know how to bring my ideas to life. And then there are rooms that I just have no clue how to arrange and decorate. Someone please come help me!! 🙂  Would any of you be interested in seeing before and after photos as I tackle each room? Or maybe I will share a photo of how a room looks now and some of you brilliant decorators can tell me what to do! yes?

Anyway, back to the cupcakes. If you never make cupcakes from scratch, please try these! They seriously are so simple, and there’s nothing quite like a homemade cupcake – especially if it’s slathered in Oreo frosting! This frosting is not your usual too sweet buttercream. Part of the butter is replaced with cream cheese, and there’s just a pinch of salt to keep this luscious frosting from being too sweet. Swirl in some crushed cookies and you have the perfect compliment to the chocolate Oreo cupcakes!

    2 Questions:
1- why is the oreos listed with salt at the beginning of the ingredients?
2- can i put an oreo at the bottom of this cupcake or will it get to soft/soggy?

    thanks in advance

Sorry about the ingredients being jumbled up – I fixed that 🙂 Yes, you can ut the Oreos in the bottom of the cupcake. It won’t get soggy but it will soften some. Hope you enjoy!

Hello! I’m a little confused…in your ingredients list for the frosting it doesn’t say anything about salt but in the directions it says salt…so is there salt in these and if so how much?

I add a little pinch of salt to the frosting to cut the sweetness a bit. It’s totally optional though 🙂

    Hi,
I’ve just made these cupcakes for a birthday party and they look amazing. I haven’t frosted them yet, as the party is tomorrow. Will the Oreos in the frosting become soft if I do them ahead of time, or does that add to the experience?!
Thanks for the recipe – my daughter is a massive fan of Oreos!

You can totally frost them ahead of time! It doesn’t really change the texture of the oreos much. Hope they are a hit at the party!

For the recipe, I am kind of confused because everyone does their recipes different. For example the 3 1/4 cups powdered sugar, are you saying 3 cups plus 1/4th? Or 1/4×3? Same with flour, seemed like a lot of powdered sugar and not enough flour. Please let me know! Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion. When I write 3 1/4 cups it means 3 cups plus 1/4 cup. Enjoy 🙂

    Hi Stephanie!
So I’ve been searching for a good Oreo cupcake recipe and I landed here. These look good and I bet they taste good, but I had a few questions. One: if I added cookie pieces to the batter, would it stay crunchy, become soggy, or dissolve into the batter? I was hoping it would dissolve and just leave the flavor but if not I don’t want soggy cookie in the cupcake. Second: is the frosting only Oreo frosting because of the cookie or does it taste like the cream centers? Could I take the cookie crumbles out? And third:can I add centers to the frosting? I want to know if they’d mix into the frosting smoothly and evenly, or become chunks in it? Thanks, please answer what you can!

      Hi, Scarlet!
1.The oreos don’t dissolve or get soggy in the cupcakes, but they do soften a bit. They aren’t crunchy in the finished cupcake.
2.The frosting does taste like the oreo cream, but the cookie crumbles really make it great. You could leave out the cookies, but I reccomend leaving them in – it tastes awesome!
3.I added crumbs of the whole cookie – cream filling and all. If you are wanting to add only the cream centers I would try microwaving them first to soften enough that they mix in smoothly. However, I think it would only add more sweetness to the frosting which really isn’t necessary. I wouldn’t bother adding just the cream filling.
Ok, hope that’s helpful to you! Enjoy the cupcakes 🙂
