I have never been a huge fan of cherry desserts. I love the fruit itself, but I never cared much for cherry pie, ice cream, or even cherry chocolate cookies. I don’t know why.
These bars have completely changed my feelings for cherry desserts. I can tell you with complete honesty that this is one of the best things I have ever made or eaten in my life! Seriously!
The base of these bars is a fudge brownie like cookie that will make you sing! Quite delicious all on it’s own, but I didn’t stop there. I topped the chocolate base with cherries, chocolate chips, marshmallows, and condensed milk. The cherries mix with the condensed milk, turning it the prettiest pink and giving it a soft, sweet cherry flavor. The result is a gooey, cherry chocolate delight that will have even the cherry naysayers back for seconds!

Black Forest Cookie Bars

- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 jar maraschino cherries (drained)
- 7oz sweetened condensed milk (1/2 can)
|Preheat oven to 350 |
In a large microwave safe bowl melt the butter. Stir in cocoa and sugar until smooth. Stir in eggs and salt until well combined. Mix in flour until fully incorporated. Spread into a greased 9x13" pan.
|Sprinkle chocolate chips, marshmallows, and chopped cherries over the cookie base. Pour condensed milk evenly over bars. |
Bake for 22 minutes and let cool completely before cutting into bars.
