  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cups buttermilk

Dirt

  • 2 Small boxes chocolate instant pudding (3.4 oz size)
  • 1 bag Oreos (1/2 ground into crumbs, and 1/2 chopped)
  • 3 cups milk
  • 8oz Cool Whip

Directions

Cake
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350
In a mixing bowl cream together the butter, oil, and sugar. Add cocoa and mix well. Add syrup, salt, and eggs, and mix well. Mix in water. Add flour, baking soda, and baking powder, and mix until well combined. Add butter milk and mix well.
Step 2
Pour cake batter evenly into two well greased 8" cake pans. Bake for about 30 minutes or until tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool at least 20 minutes in the pans, then run a knife along the edges to loosen the cake and turn upside down to release cake onto parchment paper or cooling racks to cool completely.
Dirt
Step 3
In a mixing bowl beat the pudding mix, and milk until thick. fold in cool whip and cookie chunks and all but 1/4 cup of the cookie crumbs. Cover and chill at least an hour until thickened.
Step 4
When cake is completely cooled, slice each cake in half to make four 8" layer cakes. Place one layer on a cake plate and top with 1/4 of the dirt, spreading evenly almost to the edges. Top with another layer of cake and 1/4 of the dirt, 3 more times, ending with dirt on top. Sprinkle remaining cookie crumbs over the top. Cover and chill until ready to serve.
